The group studies the robe on the wall and discover that it is magical. Callen takes a closer look and says that it glows with necromantic power, and that the bare patches on it once held patches that would summon skeletons when removed. The group decides to take the cloak in case it has a future use, and leave the room to discuss their findings with Sheriff Hemlock and Father Zantus. They discover that the daughter of Father Toban supposedly died in the fire, although bodies were too burned to identify specific people. Unsure what to do next, the adventurers attempt to track the humanoid prints. Roland can only follow the tracks into the vault, and cannot see any leaving. Elsbeth investigates the nearby sepulcher, looking for a secret passage, but before she can investigate too closely Roland reminds her they are in a holy room and she should leave the bodies where they lay.
The group tries to decide what to do next, and eventually settle for returning to the inn to look for gossip. Along the way the villagers continue to cheer everyone as heroes, and the innkeeper of the Rusty Dragon offers to let us stay a week on the house. Foxglove, the gentlemen by the rain-barrel, comes over to thank us again and offers to let us stay at his estate, but the group declines his generous offer for the time being and ask if it will remain open for later.
While the group is talking to the innkeeper, an older Tian gentlemen enters the inn and walks angrily up to her. They have a brief, angry yelling match, and the group determines that he is her father, and that is disappointed in the way she is running the inn for some reason. As soon as he notices the adventurers he lays into them as well, blaming them for the towns problems before and after they arrived, and telling them to get out of town before they bring more sorrow to the locals. Ameiko steps in and tells him to leave her in, and he retorts that she is a disappointment just like her mother. Ameiko brains him with a frying pan, and Elsbeth manages to wrestle him out the inn door.
Ameiko mentions that a guard usually stops by on his patrol, and that if we are looking for information on the goblins he may be able to help. So they decide to wait for the guard, and buy him a drink in return for any help he can provide. Unfortunately he does not know where the goblins come from specifically, but tells us that a traveling ranger may be able to help once she comes back to town. The guard continues his patrol and Tal sends Avornor out to scout the nearby woods for signs of goblins. While the group waits Callen gives a performance on stage, earning some tips and a place to perform for the week they are staying.
After his performance the group decide to roam the town in search of information. They travel to the lumber mill first, in the hopes that lumberjacks going outside the town boundaries may have seen or heard of a goblin gathering. Unfortunately they only run into two grumpy businessmen, who promptly have the adventurers escorted off the property without answering any questions. Looking around, the group see a psychic’s house and decide to try their luck. The psychic, Madame Vashti, says she will speak to Father Toban’s spirit for 10GP, and Tal pays the lady. She goes into a trance, and the next voice says it is Father Toban. He says he is trapped in mountains of fire, and hears the scream of a thousand demons. We ask who is holding his bones, and he says he is held by the nemesis of Desna, who fights her every day. After the seance Elsbeth asks who Toban may have meant, and Roland tells her it may be Lamashtu.
Tal decides to visit the local brothel, claiming he is merely looking for information from travelers partaking of the carnal delights. The rest of the group go back to the Rusty Dragon and listen to Callen perform again. During his performance Tal returns, quicker than the group expected, and talks smack about Callen’s performance. Callen hears him and there is a tense moment between the two.
The group go to sleep for the night, and when they return to the common room in the morning they hear that the traveling ranger, Lasana has returned to town. The tension between Tal and Callen has not died down overnight, and Roland threatens violence to keep the peace between them. Elsbeth asks Ameiko where they may be able to find Lasana, and she tells them to check the garrison. At the garrison the group finds the Mayor, the Sheriff, and an elven woman. We join them to get the latest news, and are introduced to Shalelu. We are told that they goblins have been attcking on and off for the last four years, and that they love settings things on fire whenever possible. There are 5 major goblin tribes nearby, and to pull off a large attack like the recent one it implies that all five are working together. Goblins do not usually get along long enough to coordinate attacks, so this is very bad news. Shalelu suggests meeting for a meal at the Rusty Dragon later to discuss details of the most recent raid.
The group goes to the general store, run by Vender and his daughters. Elsbeth takes out the items looted from the goblin raid and sells the jewels. After completing the transaction Vender takes the jewels to a safe in his cellar, and the next thing the group hears is a roar of rage. Roland glances at the others and goes to investigate, returning shortly with Tal and suggesting they all leave quickly before any more misunderstandings happen. The next stop is the armory, and Elsbeth shares out the communal funds, 145GP per person, for everyone to do their shopping. Tal puts in an order for an Elven blade, and Elsbeth sells the armor they got off the goblin raiders. Their final stop is to buy some healing potions, and Roland hands over his gun for some improvements to be made. After their shopping trip the group returns to the inn, and Avornor flies back from his scouting mission, sadly unsuccessful at finding anything out.
Callen puts on another show while they wait for Shalelu. Tal steps up on stage after him, and manages to sing a decent rendition of a familiar song. He sings two more for the crowd before stepping down to rejoin his friends. Shalelu had arrived during his performance, and says she was touched by his singing. The group settles in to tell Shalelu what exactly happened during the raid. She tells the heroes in return about the local tribes, and the six beings that they considered heroes. After the meeting most of the group goes to their rooms, while Callen stays up a little while longer to start work on a new ballad.
In the morning the group are approached by an elder halfling woman who tells us that Ameiko has not started the morning routine and her bed is unslept in. The halfling had found a note asking Ameiko to go to the glassworks to discuss her father’s possible involvement in the latest goblin attacks. The note was from her brother, who wrote that they both need to find a way to make sure the father is punished before he talks himself out of the crimes. The halfling lady tells the group of Ameiko’s family history. Her mother, Atsuii, passed away before her time, and Ameiko’s brother Tsuto holds their father responsible. Lonjiku, the father, has always been a harsh man, quick to anger. The group agrees to go to the glassworks, owned by Ameiko’s family, to see if they can find out what happened to her. On the way Roland stops to pick up his gun, just in case.
When they arrive the glassworks are silent, and from a glance Elsbeth can tell that all the windows are curtained and the doors locked. She does notice skylights in the roof, and Tal sends Avornor to look in. Elsbeth follows the owl up with her grappling hook, and when she looks inside she sees many dismembered bodies and burning limbs in a furnace. She quickly makes her way back down and tells the group what she saw. They agree to investigate, and Elsbeth starts to pick the eastern door. While she is working at it she can hear the guys behind her talking to other people and telling them to disperse. She finally gets the door open and Tal enters first. The room they have entered is a showroom filled with beautiful glass pieces. The group continues to search the hallways and rooms, finding multiple storerooms and a kitchen area. The kitchen and pantry are ransacked and most of the furniture is destroyed. Continuing through the rooms the group arrives at the forge and find the dismembered bodies of the glassworks staff. Lonjiku’s body is encased in layers of waxy glass, sitting in a chair in the center of the room. Goblins enter the room, surprised to find the adventurers there, and split the group into two fights. Roland takes out the two at his end of the room, one with a bullseye to the skull. Elsbeth is knocked out before he can come to her rescue, so he proceeds to take out the goblins attacking Callen and Tal. Tal takes out one by the forge fire, and Roland explodes the fifth with a well placed bullet. Seeing he is the final survivor, the sixth goblin attempts to flee but is taken down when Callen stabs it in the back and it skids through a glass shard pile to its death. The group revives Elsbeth and they take stock of their surroundings…
